Howdy! I've been scanning through topics and I've already found more information than I can reasonably process right now. I did have a question to put out there to all of you (and I hope it hasn't already been covered, though I did find some similar information in the Do We Need a War Chest thread).

Could people please share how successful various forms of pay-for/no-pay advertising have been for them? Which are worth the money and/or effort, and which aren't? I've been compiling a list every time I see a new option that applies to weblit/fiction and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about them.

- Project Wonderful
- Google Ads
- Digital Novelists Ad Exchange
- Online Fiction Blogads Network
- Blogads Book Hive

There are probably others I am missing from my list, and feel free to suggest more!

What do you get in a story with most of the conventions of epic fantasy, but isn't epic? A life-paced story about people who happen to live in the circumstances of war, invasion, political complications, and magic. No heroes, no saving the day, no glorified romance, or clean-cut answers. Just life.

PW has absolutely worked wonders for me, at a fairly low cost. I'm going to blitz the world there when book one is done.

Google Ads is not worth considering either as a publisher or an advertiser.

DN Exchange is 100% free. I get a few hits from it, but not a ton.

Online Fiction Blogads Network disclaimer: I am the hive manager. I have never advertised on it, but the book one campaign may prove the exception. Anyone else in the hive who wants to trade blogads, I'll be up for it.

Blogads Book Hive: I wouldn't unless you've got considerable $$ to spend. Blogads in general are the most expensive option listed here, and for the results I think you can do better unless, as I said, you've got bucks.

All that said, I do believe advertising is important, especially PW. I got the majority of my readers through PW, and I hope to get 'em back through PW. Smile

Thanks for sharing your experience, Mei Lin. That's very helpful! I think I found your site through PW. So the Online Fiction Blogads Network is for trading ads, rather than buying them?

Anyone else have any experiences to share with the advertisers, or others I didn't list?

No, Online Blogads Network is definitely for buying them, but those within the network can trade if they want.

Okay, that clears that up.
