Bootleg Audio Books
I'm not sure if this is in the write forum, but I'm curious if anyone here offers 'audio books'. I ask because I was lurking at another serial, and there were links that led to youtube, with a few chapters being read by the author. Has anyone here tried that route? Do you think it might help further draw attention to your own works?
I'd also, once I'm more established as a web author, do audio books. I'm slightly afraid to do YouTube myself, but I'm afraid how that's gonna turn out. Perhaps I can make a placard with a brief summary of the chapter. That way I can do the audio book and not be seen.
I don't have audiobooks, exactly, but I've recorded a handful of poems and offer streaming versions of the audio on my site. They've gone over pretty well and the poems with recordings typically have higher traffic than the others, but I haven't done any recently -- I need to get a new mic.
Most video editors should let you use a static image with an audio overlay. If you don't want to have video or photography of yourself, you could do something like displaying the text as it's being read, or illustrations from the piece or something.

I fully intend to offer audiobooks. I just auditioned for a part on a Famous Fantasy Podcast, which I hope will be a) fun and b ) promotional. It was a dry run for the Scryer's Gulch podcast, which should be going up soonish. No YouTube. I photograph horribly, I mean seriously. oy.
